FAQs

How can I find out if I had hail or wind damage to my roof? Can I tell from the ground?
Call us if you’ve had hail in your area.  Through a close inspection we can determine if you roof or exterior has been damaged.   For wind damage,  you may see shingles on the ground or shingles missing from your roof.  But note that not all damage is visible from the ground.

My roof looks fine! Could it still be damaged?
A physical inspection of the entire roofing systems is needed by our inspectors in order to determine if there is actual hail or wind damage.  Because the damage is subtle, it may not cause noticable leakage for years after a storm.

What does a hail damage  or a hail hit look like?
A shingle with a hail hit will have a “bruise” or a dark spot on it.  The dark spot is where the granules on the shingle came off and the asphalt underlayment and and possibly the fiberglass mat is exposed.   The shiny appearance of new hail damage appears because the asphalt has been newly exposed and not been weathered dull.

My gutters and siding were damaged in the storm. Can you help with this as well?
Yes, Koontz Roofing and Exteriors can cover storm related including damage.

Why would my insurance company replace my roof/siding/gutters?
Homeowner’s insurance protects homeowners against (Acts of God) or losses in their property’s value due to damage that is beyond their control.

How soon do I need to get my roof replaced?
Note that many insurance companies have a “statute of limitations” of how long a hail claim or wind claim is “claimable”.  If you have experienced a loss, such as hail or wind damage it is important to handle this  in a timely manner before it leads to other associated problems.

What happens if my insurance company denies my claim, am I out of luck?
Not always.    We have assisted customers through the process.

Will an Insurance Adjuster who inspects my roof,  know enough to spot hidden damage?
Our roofing inspectors can walk through the inspection with the insurance adjuster and call the adjuster’s attention to damage.

Will my home or business insurance cancel my policy if I file a claim?
If your roof has damage, you have a VALID insurance claim that needs to be filed with your insurance company.  Insurance companies cannot cancel your policy for a disaster related claim.

What if I don’t file a claim, will my insurance company raise my rates?
Sometimes, insurance companies raise everyone’s rates after a disaster.    By not filing your claim, your personal rate increase is paying for everyone else’s damage except yours.
